Earthmoving fuel theft is frequently a business. Crews arrive with a truck-mounted transfer tank and a proper pump, hit six or eight machines in twenty minutes, and drive off with several hundred gallons. They know the site schedule, they know when the crew leaves, and they know how long they have. Deterrence measures aimed at casual thieves do not impress them, but time and effort still do.

What Fails

• Cameras alone. Useful after the fact, no help at the moment. And on a remote site there is often no power and no signal.
• Fencing on a linear site. Not practical on a road job or a pipeline.
• Locking caps. Against someone with a pump and a drill, a cap is a sixty-second delay and it leaves the filler neck damaged.

Track Fuel Per Machine, Not Per Site

Site-level fuel totals hide everything. Logging gallons delivered against engine hours per machine turns a vague site-wide gap into a specific pattern you can act on.

Control the On-Site Fuel Trailer

A 500-gallon fuel trailer is the single biggest target on the property and it is usually the least protected. Lock the pump, lock the cabinet, chain the trailer, and where possible take it off site over long shutdowns.
