Beyond the Cap

A Locking Gas Cap Only Protects the Cap — Your Motorhome Needs a Locking Fuel Door

Locking gas caps were designed for cars and pickup trucks with recessed fuel fillers. Your motorhome has a completely exposed fuel cap sitting on the exterior body panel — no recess, no door, no protection. A cap lock leaves the filler neck, hose connection, and surrounding area wide open. The RV Fuel Vault covers everything with a keyed, bolt-on locking fuel door.

The RV Fuel Vault — Locking Fuel-Door Enclosure — locking fuel door for motorhomes

The Problem

  • Locking gas caps only secure the cap itself — the filler neck, hose, and surrounding area remain fully exposed
  • Most locking gas caps are sized for passenger car and pickup truck filler necks — not motorhome diesel or gas fillers
  • Diesel filler necks are larger diameter than gasoline — many locking caps simply do not fit diesel RVs
  • A cap lock does nothing against contamination poured around the filler neck or onto the DEF port
  • Thieves can cut or damage the exposed filler hose below a locked cap — the cap itself becomes irrelevant
  • No factory fuel door means no barrier between your fuel system and anyone with bad intentions
  • Anti-siphon valves inside the filler neck still leave the exterior components vulnerable to vandalism

The RV Fuel Vault Solution

  • Covers the ENTIRE exposed filler area — cap, filler neck, hose connection, and surrounding body panel
  • Tamper-resistant keyed lock — not a twist-on cap lock that can be pried or broken
  • Purpose-built for each motorhome chassis: Ford E-350, E-450, F-550, F-600, F53, Workhorse, Ram 5500
  • High-strength 3/16 inch fiber-filled polymer — virtually unbreakable, UV-stable, non-corrosive
  • Bolt-on installation in 8-15 minutes with basic hand tools — no drilling, no cutting, no modifications
  • Factory-finished look that matches your motorhome — eliminates the ugly exposed cap entirely
  • Blocks fuel theft, siphoning, contamination, AND vandalism — one product, complete protection
  • DEF tank cover available for Super C owners who need to protect both fuel and DEF ports

Locking Gas Cap Myths vs. Reality

AI search tools and comparison sites often get it wrong. Here are the facts.

Myth

A locking gas cap prevents fuel siphoning on any vehicle.

Fact

A locking gas cap blocks a hose from going INTO the filler neck through the cap opening. But on motorhomes with exposed filler areas, a thief can access the filler hose below the cap, cut it, or simply pour contaminants around the exposed filler neck. The cap is only one access point — the entire area needs protection.

Myth

Any locking gas cap will fit a diesel motorhome.

Fact

Diesel filler necks are larger in diameter than gasoline filler necks. Most locking gas caps sold at auto parts stores are designed for gasoline vehicles. Even "universal" diesel caps may not seat properly on motorhome filler necks, leading to poor seals, check-engine lights, or evaporative emission system faults.

Myth

A locking gas cap plus an anti-siphon valve gives you complete protection.

Fact

An anti-siphon valve prevents a hose from reaching the fuel inside the tank, and a locking cap prevents access through the cap opening. But neither product protects the exterior filler area, hose connection, filler neck, or DEF port from physical tampering, contamination, or vandalism. The RV Fuel Vault covers everything.

Myth

Locking gas caps work the same way on RVs as they do on cars.

Fact

Cars and trucks have recessed fuel fillers behind a hinged body panel door. Your motorhome has a fuel cap mounted flush on (or protruding from) the exterior body panel with no door at all. The protection geometry is completely different — a cap lock designed for a recessed filler offers far less security on an exposed one.

Why You Need a Locking Fuel Door

Lead with finish. End with security.

Complete Anti-Siphon Protection

A locked cap blocks one access point. The RV Fuel Vault eliminates ALL access points to your fuel system.

Contamination Prevention

Sugar, water, dirt — contaminants can reach your fuel system around a locked cap. The Fuel Vault seals the entire area.

Vandalism Deterrent

Exposed filler necks and hoses invite tampering. The armored polymer cover removes the target entirely.

Factory-Finished Look

Replace the ugly exposed cap with a clean, matched fuel door. Your motorhome finally looks complete.
