Is there a DEF cap cover for an RV?

By The RV Fuel Vault, Sarasota, Florida · Updated October 2026

Short answer

Yes. Diesel Super C motorhomes on the Ford F-550 and F-600 leave the factory with an exposed, unlocked DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) fill next to the diesel fills. The RV Fuel Vault 3-Pack ($479.95) puts a keyed locking door over the diesel fills and the DEF fill, so nobody can pour the wrong fluid into your DEF tank, a mistake that can mean a $5,000–$10,000 emissions-system repair.

Why the DEF fill needs protection

DEF caps are blue, easy to spot and usually just a twist-off plastic cap. Water, diesel, or anything else poured into the DEF tank can contaminate the SCR system. A locking door over the fill removes the opportunity entirely.

Which RVs have an exposed DEF fill

Diesel Super C coaches on the Ford F-550 and F-600: for example the Grand Design Lineage Series F and LE 43, the Dynamax Isata 6 (2026 retrofit and 2027–2028), and many Thor, Entegra, Jayco and Renegade Super Cs. Gas coaches, including the Ram 5500 (gas) Dynamax Isata 5, have no DEF fill.

Layouts vary by model year, so confirm yours in Find My Fit before ordering.

Does a Ram 5500 motorhome need a DEF cap cover?

No. The Ram 5500 coach we fit (Dynamax Isata 5) is a gas chassis with no DEF fill. It takes 1 small door plus a security screw pack.

Can I buy just a DEF door?

Coaches with an exposed DEF fill normally also have exposed diesel fills, so the 3-Pack covers everything at once. Contact us if you only need one door.
